Trivia

The tolling of the bell at the end of The King’s Son was inspired by the tolling bell at the end of the movie “Lady Hawk”.

—————————————————————

Though I do have a favorite character, the one I enjoyed writing the most was actually not even a minor character. A man named Gorvick, who appeared in only a few chapters in TBoK, was the one I had a lot of fun writing. So have you met Gorvick yet? If so, do you have an opinion of him?

Though Anzonirans are mostly equal in stature, those with children are held in a higher esteem due to them being so rare. You can determine an Anzoniran’s rank by where their house is located within the kingdom. Those lower to the ground are the ones with the youngest residents. This is because it is a shorter distance to fall and they are less likely to die if they did. Those closest to the ground are more desirable as partners as well but their rank could easily change if a child is born into a house that is higher on the mountains.

There have been three different covers for The King’s Son. A few people have the original brown one with only a key. Most have the newest version with the mountains, red sky, and blood. But there is also one other version that has a blue sky and no blood. I am the only one who has a copy this cover.

I once asked a student to walk across the field of the school I work at (short side of course) to see how many of his feet it was. The purpose? To see if Bartel would fit in that space as it was the size I imagined the training yard in The Witch of Belasi being.

—————————————————————

Halfway through NaNoWrimo and halfway through Book 5, I started crying. Yes, I cried because that’s when the main story begins (it takes a while to get there but a lot happens before that) and I realized I was writing the beginning of the end of something that has been a part of my life for the past ten years.

—————————————————————

The description of the “dragon queen” in book #2 was based on the cover design, NOT the other way around. *Except for the fact that she was silver, that was a must*

—————————————————————

The books in my series A Realm Hereafter are the only books (for the foreseeable future) that contain dragons.

—————————————————————

Lappet is a word that means a flap on a headdress or clothing. Also, it refers to the wattle of a bird. Fen is a marshy land or bog. If I had known this, I probably would not have given two major characters these names.

—————————————————————

The Royal 13 is the only book I’ve written that came from a dream I had. In the dream, a murder took place over a part in a movie. However, though the murder scene took place as originally planned, the reason for it became much more twisted and convoluted.

—————————————————————

Every book in the series A Realm Hereafter ends with a single, short line.

—————————————————————

When I wrote The Witch of Belasi, I completely skipped chapter 3 . Once I had finished the book, I went back and wrote it in. Why did I do this? Because I had no idea what to write.

—————————————————————

For The Witch of Belasi, I was torn between two titles. Though ultimately deciding to go with The Witch of Belasi, I still couldn’t completely give up on the second title. Therefore, the second possible title was given to the first chapter in The Witch of Belasi.

—————————————————————

When I wrote The King’s Son, I did not realize the tragic family histories I gave all four major characters. It wasn’t until I was working on The Dragon Queen that I finally noticed this similarity. I thought this was interesting and so, to poke fun at myself, I had Lappet muse over this fact with rather morbid amusement.

—————————————————————

When writing The Dragon Queen, I had a very hard time coming up with an awesome name for a dragon king (or chief since they live in tribes). So I recruited my husband and he helped me come up with the name Nyziiros.

—————————————————————

The names of the three dragon tribes Nox-i, Shin-si, and Kin-su were taken from the words noxious, shining, and kindred respectively.

—————————————————————

Did you know that in spite of the dragons, “magic”, and kingdoms in my series A Realm Hereafter, it would technically be classified as Science Fiction NOT Fantasy. This is because it is an alternate future and the changes have a vague “scientific” explanation.

—————————————————————

In The Dragon Queen, I took out or rewrote every single one of Lappet’s scenes.

—————————————————————

In the chapter Tower of Nesair in TKS, Ocber Forest was supposed to have a siren-like affect on anyone who entered its boundaries by driving the person crazy. It was going to affect Exendrik and Fen differently, alluding to a certain secret. However, I saw no point in the storyline and scrapped it.

—————————————————————

Throughout the entire series of A Realm Hereafter, there are a total of 12 named (with the exception of the king) and reoccuring men and 11 named and reoccuring women. But not all appear in every book.

—————————————————————

Originally, in TKS, the location of the towns of Dexper and Dow Raw were switched. However, once I reached the chapter entitled The River Ney Wey, I realized their current locations wouldn’t work. Due to where I placed the bridge, the road that connected the two halves of the kingdom, the flow and depth of the river, what route I wanted the characters to take to reach their destination and of course, the big event that takes place in that chapter, I felt the best way to fix the problem without rewriting the whole book was to simply flip-flop the two towns.

—————————————————————

The King’s Son is the only book in the series that has a “who done it” plot, with clues left throughout the book.

—————————————————————

Exendrik’s nickname was supposed to be Xendr but I could never figure out the best way to get it to stick.

—————————————————————

The king from The King’s Son is the only important character in the series never given a name.

—————————————————————

The main character’s name in The King’s Son, Exendrik, was derived from the word eccentric.

—————————————————————

Fen and Exendrik were originally going to be the main characters of a different book which was scrapped.

—————————————————————

Both Fen and Exendrik have last names that no one knows.
